Matau Records Vinyl Tune of the Day - "Decades" by Joy Division

"Decades" was released on vinyl in 1980 on Joy Division's second album "Closer" on Factory Records. It was released on 18 July 1980 two months after lead singer Ian Curtis' suicide.

Joy Division were an English rock band formed in 1976 in Salford, Greater Manchester. Originally named Warsaw, the band primarily consisted of Ian Curtis (vocals and occasional guitar), Bernard Sumner (guitar and keyboards), Peter Hook (bass guitar and backing vocals) and Stephen Morris (drums and percussion).

Following Ian Curtis death Joy Division renamed themselves "New Order" with Bernard Sumner taking up vocals and Stephen Morris' girlfriend Gillian Gilbert joining as keyboardist

Closer features Bernard Sumner's first use of synthersizers which became prevalent in the bands transformation to New Order. You can buy the remastered vinyl album of Closer at our online vinyl music store Click Here
